Biography

Dr. Kawthar BOUCHEMAL was born in 1978 in Mila (Algeria) where she obtained her baccalaureate in 1995. She received a “grant for excellence” for five years of studies which allowed her to get two pharmacist graduate diplomas. The more recent one was obtained from the school of pharmacy of Lyon - France.
From 2000 to 2004 she successively completed a Master’s Degree in "Medical and Biological Engineering" and a PhD thesis in "Pharmaceutical Technology" at Université Claude Bernard Lyon-1 in collaboration with Coletica Company - France. During her PhD thesis she acquired a solid foundation in the domain of colloidal system formulation as well as the scale-up of their production.

During her PhD thesis, she was a teacher of chemical engineering, chemistry, physics, physico-chemistry and pharmaceutical technology in the “School of Chemistry, Physics and Electronics (ES-CPE) and in the “Preparatory School of Chemistry, Physics and Electronics” (Prépa CPE Institut des Chartreux) in Lyon.

After her PhD thesis, she was a post-doctoral fellow at Université Claude Bernard Lyon-1 in collaboration with Bayer Healthcare Company. Motivated by the development of new drug delivery systems and their pharmaceutical applications, she obtained a second post-doctoral position jointly at the University of Geneva and Université Claude Bernard Lyon-1 until September 2006. Since then, she worked as an associate professor at the UMR CNRS 8612 - Université Paris-Sud XI.

Now, her main topics of interest are designed to address challenges for (i) the entrapment of fragile and/or poorly absorbed molecules, (ii) to make them bypass natural barriers and (iii) to ensure their targeting into biological tissues.
